 Lou focuses on estate planning, trust planning, probate avoidance, asset protection planning, and business and succession planning. Whether helping a young family create their first wills, assisting retirees with long-term care asset protection planning, or designing sophisticated strategies for multi-generational wealth protection, Lou is committed to helping each client achieve their goals, avoid conflict, reduce stress and preserve assets. Lou also brings extensive experience in corporate and business law, having served as in-house counsel for Sanford Health. Lou served as Corporate Counsel for Sanford at Bemidji, for Sanford Health’s Contracts Team and Network, and eventually advanced to Executive Director for Legal in Sioux Falls, where he was responsible for all legal matters for Sanford USD Medical Center and its surrounding markets. Throughout his career, Lou has managed a wide range of complex legal matters, including antitrust litigation, asset purchases, and numerous merger and acquisition transactions. He has well-rounded experience in a wide variety of matters including evaluating regulatory issues, advising on risk management and employment issues, real estate matters, and drafting a wide range of deal documents. As a transaction-focused attorney, he also gained a broad background in contract negotiating and drafting. Lou has a unique ability to focus on the details without losing sight of the “big picture” and prides himself on finding solutions. He is able to draw on his experience to help clients make sound business decisions, navigate corporate and business matters, and he has a sincere desire to help local businesses succeed in their business ventures. In addition to corporate and business law, Lou enjoys helping families with estate planning and making sure the family is protected and the fruit of hard work is protected for loved ones.
